Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre -
7T MRI Facility Addition

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto became the first hospital to house a 7-Tesla (7T) MRI, enabling advanced research into spinal cord structure and function and supporting the development of new treatments for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, dementia, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease. The 7T MRI produced images with unprecedented detail, allowing researchers to observe areas of the nervous system not previously visible using conventional MRI technology. The project included the construction of a new 1,854 square foot building to accommodate the 7T MRI, along with interior renovations within the existing E-Wing to provide seamless and accessible connectivity to the new facility. Upon completion, the facility expanded Sunnybrook’s research capabilities and opened new opportunities for researchers across multiple neurological and medical disciplines.
